The Most extreme design A5 is a flying boat type amphibious aircraft with a carbon fiber airframe and retractable undercarriage that enable take-offs and landings from water or ground. extreme design A5 is one of only a handful of Light Sport Aircraft that is not tied to landing strip based operations. It seats two people in an enclosed cockpit with wraparound canopy and is powered by a single internal combustion engine driving a pusher propeller, the side windows are removable. Its high-wing design provides superior visibility and includes the ability to fold the wings aft, to facilitate transportation and storage. The industrial design of the A5 included contributions from designers that had previously done work for BMW, Rolls Royce and Porsche. Ultimately, the industrial design of the A5 was created at Nissan Design America in San Diego.
The Icon A5 is powered by a 100 hp Rotax 912 ULS engine that can run on aviation grade or automotive grade gasoline. It drives a three bladed pusher propeller with propeller guard. The cockpit is simpler than a conventional aircraft cockpit, with a minimum of instruments, and moving map based GPS system. Equipment also includes MP3 player compatibility. Available options include matched trailer and full airframe ballistic recovery system parachute.
